The National Honor Society is designed to stimulate a desire to render service, promote worthy leadership, and encourage the development of character. The annual Thanksgiving food drive proved the ever-expanding influence NHS has on gathering the school community together for a greater cause.
Thanks to the district-wide staff and students at Hopatcong High School who demonstrated their desire to help serve the community, needy families in town were provided a wonderful Thanksgiving meal. 32 turkeys and more than 2,500 canned and boxed food items were donated over a period weeks in November leading up to Thanksgiving. Every house in need received a turkey, a laundry basket filled with food, and a loaded box of food.
All 18 members of the National Honor Society, supervised by advisor Mrs. Lisa Kenny, gathered on Monday, November 25 to assemble the laundry baskets and boxes, getting them ready for delivery the next day. A total of 10 members in teams of two assisted in delivering the turkeys and food baskets to the families in town on Tuesday.
Needless to say, the National Honor Society never fails to serve the community. Here’s to another successful food drive!
