The 4th annual Chief’s Challenge, a 3.1 mile race that benefits HHS scholarships, will be held on Sunday, June 22. The 9 a.m. race will begin and end at Hopatcong High School. A one mile “fun run” will follow on the high school track.
Proceeds from the race are used to award scholarships to a Hopatcong senior or seniors who have excelled in both the classroom and athletics. This year, the scholarship will be awarded to a senior(s) who will be attending a four-year college in the fall. The foundation has awarded close to $20,000 over the last 4 years to deserving seniors.
The Chief’s Challenge 5k benefits the Paul D. Pinsonault Memorial Foundation. Paul Pinsonault was a long time Hopatcong resident and a big supporter of Hopatcong. He supported the schools and recreational programs and was inspirational to many people. In February 2005, at the age of 64, Paul passed away from prostate cancer after a five-year battle with the disease. His sons Tony, Jon, and Christian say the race is a perfect way to give back and pay it forward while remembering their father.
At the event there will be T-Shirts, goody bags, a DJ, and face painting. Medals will be awarded to the top 3 finishers of the race (men/women); awards will be given to various age groups, as well. This course is certified by the USA Track and Field. Walkers are also welcomed at this event.
Although members of the Pinsonault family no longer live in Hopatcong, they continue to support and give back to the community they grew up in.
