Hopatcong’s own Marching Chiefs made quite an impression on Somerset Patriot fans at the TD Bank Ballpark on September 21st. They were invited to play the national anthem along with a pre-game performance in the outfield.
Under the direction of band director, Mr. Kurt Zimmermann, the band took its horn players, percussionists, and color guard members ‘out to the ballgame’ for the Patriots game against the Bridgeport Bluefish. The musical selections consisted of their show from the previous year— including “The Theme from Coach” and “Sweet Caroline”— as well as the current field show which entails My Chemical Romance’s “Welcome to the Black Parade,” Snow Patrol’s “Chasing Cars,” and the classic hit from the Rocky Horror Picture Show “Time Warp.”
The parents of the band, in full support of the performers, wore matching shirts for the occasion as they cheered from the stands. Afterwards, the band enjoyed the rest of the game and was greatly complemented by viewers and fans.
“The experience was amazing!” said drum major and senior Cassidy Sandry. “We’ve never played for, or in a venue like that, but we didn’t let it intimidate us. We performed well and I couldn’t be prouder of everyone.”
The band can be found pumping up the crowd in the stands, as well as playing and marching their current field show, every football game of the season.
