Thanksgiving Drive Success

As the temperature drops and snow begins to fall, families reflect on what they are thankful for. Annually we gather for a feast in honor of this beautiful transition, formally known as Thanksgiving, but unfortunately, not all families can enjoy the festive mouth-stuffing this holiday has to offer. That is why Hopatcong High School holds an annual food drive, run by the National Honor Society (NHS), and their fantastic advisor, Mrs. Lisa Kenny.

Year after year, the National Honor Society advisor and English teacher, Mrs. Lisa Kenny and her prestigious group of students gather turkeys, canned goods, and other various food items in order to provide a Thanksgiving meal for less fortunate families.

The event is fueled by caring HHS students and district-wide staff members, dedicated to making a difference in their community. When asked about the results of this years NHS food drive, NHS member Tyler Turnage had this to say: “The food drive was an absolute success! We provided for 15 families and we all worked together nicely to give back to our community!” Every family received their own turkey and a plethora of cans to accommodate it. Some families even received a second turkey to establish a warm meal for the following holidays to come.”

Another NHS member, Korina Hand, spoke on this year’s accomplishments and the magnitude of what each family had received. “We collected a lot more food than we had expected to get,” Korina said. “Each family received multiple cans of food due to the great participation among the students, which is always nice to see!”.

The NHS and its outstanding generosity serve as an example of what this great community has to offer. As the 2019 food drive came to an end, Mrs. Kenny recapped this year’s fortune. “Once again the Hopatcong community offered their assistance to the less fortunate in town by donating 22 turkeys and hundreds of canned & boxed Thanksgiving fare. Due to their kindness & generosity, many families in town had a memorable & delicious holiday!”

Fantastic job Hopatcong; you did it again! May you have the happiest of holidays and don’t forget to give thanks for all the things that make this season magical!
