This year’s copy of Reflections, HHS literary magazine, hit the halls in late May. Featuring original, student creative writing, photography, and art work, the magazine is a testament to the talents and hard work demonstrated by students here at Hopatcong.
Editors in Chief included Jessica Alvarez and Alejandra Flores Torres. Jessica Alvarez and Tyler Turnage took up the reigns of layout. Copy editors included seniors, Sophia Tan and Rachel Fischer, and freshman, Marissa Fattorusso. Business was handled by Jake Christiano and Samantha Serocke.
This year’s cover was created by senior Kate Correa, and it is our first color cover for the publication. The title page, was drawn by Mallory Vicedomini.
Genres represented in creative writing include poetry, short fiction, and memoir. Found poems, created by Mrs. Lisa Kenny and Mr. Jeffrey Ryder’s Global Honors Class grace 6 pages of the pubclication. The publication also features the results of this year’s poetry contest. First place, went to Rhiannon Bender, for her poem, “Rose”; second place went to Siera Simon, for her poem, “My Gentle Inquiry”; third place went to Jessica Alvarez, for her poem, “Childhood.” Honorable mentions this year went to the following students: Jake Christiano, Tyler Turnage, Caitlin Gartley, Rachel Baez, Jessica Hassan, and Kristina Silva.
“I am extremely pleased with this year’s publication,” said advisor and HHS English teacher, Mrs. Sandra DeRose. “Students took complete control of all aspects of the magazine, proving that team work, when executed properly, ends in amazing results.”
